Burgers and burritos is a combination of American and Mexican dishes brought together as one by Army Navy. But that’s just the beginning. What makes Army Navy appealing to people is their witty play with words for their menu – Fearless Fried Chicken, Starving Sailor, Bully Boy Burger and Libertea to name a few. Some of these unique names are inspired by navy chanties and poems during the World War.
Focusing on good quality food products, Army Navy is a perfect place to enjoy two of the well-loved foreign dishes of Filipinos: the burger, as a famous American dish in fusion with the burrito, a unique Mexican delight. What many people don’t know is that Army Navy is actually a local brand.
Everything about Army Navy caught my attention and my eyes has never been that satisfied. When we arrived, I can’t help but notice the sign on their wall that says “No forks needed. Eat with your hands”. And truly, looking around the place, everyone is eating with their hands.
Army Navy’s mission “Come in hungry, walk out happy” stays true to its promise as we were nothing but happy and satisfied after walking out of the place. Army Navy at The Fort in Taguig gave us the welcoming feel the moment we stepped foot in it. Being inside will make you feel that you are not inside the restaurant. The signs on the wall will lead you to believe that you are on the road and just taking a break after a long drive. And why not? This is the impression that Army Navy wants to create. The light environment paired with good food for everyone who visits them is what they are about, after all.
Libertea, the famous freshly brewed iced tea of Army Navy, was served the moment we have settled down. I have tried the Classic burger made from the “classic, single quarter-pound beef patty” with additional cheese and bacon before, but I didn’t miss the chance of tasting it again after a long time. This time, however, I added the Chicken Burrito, which is a “flour tortilla filled with meat, spanish rice, beans, onions, lettuce and cilantro” served with salsa, a slice of lime and Army Navy’s special dip. It was so big that I couldn’t eat all of it. As a first timer in eating burrito, I have to know some house rules in eating it.
Loren Adrias, the marketing manager, told us that there are four steps in eating a burrito: peel, squeeze, eat and repeat. It tried finishing my meal but boy was I satisfied even before I got the chance to finish the last bite of the burrito! It was so huge that I can’t finish it without sharing with someone else.
After we’re done with the burger and the HUGE burrito, we get to taste the Freedom Fries, the trademark fries of Army Navy. Unlike the normal fries from other food establishments, freedom fries is “seasoned, thin-cut, crispy, zesty fries”. To tell you the truth, even after days of eating it, I can still taste it in my mouth. It’s just perfect!
It is truly a burritoful world at Army Navy!
